Penda Choppy is the Director of the Creole Language and Culture Research Institute at the University of Seychelles. She was the Director of the Creole Institute of Seychelles from 1999 to 2014 when she became its CEO. She moved to the University of Seychelles in 2016. Penda studied English at Leeds University and has recently completed a research degree at Master’s level at the University of Birmingham, UK. Her main research interests are the oral and written creole traditions of the Western Indian Ocean, in the postcolonial context.
